At Botanica Medicines, our practitioners offer high quality, functional diagnostic tests. These can assist in uncovering your complete and holistic health story, ensuring that our practitioners can give you tailored strategies for healing, especially when working through complex issues.

We conduct some of these tests within our clinic, such as the Oligoscan & Live Blood Analysis, while other pathology tests can be performed in various pathology labs across Australia, with a referral from our practitioners.

Oligoscan: Heavy Metal and Mineral Testing

The OligoScan gives you a precise analysis of your trace minerals, select vitamins and heavy metals in a quick and simple painless procedure. This test is performed in-house at Botanica. The technology utilizes spectrophotometry to obtain results within minutes, enabling practitioners to utilise these results within a consultation. So there is no waiting for your Oligoscan analysis  – the instant results can be incorporated into your consultation on the same day.

Four readings are taken from areas of the palm of your hand. These photos are sent online to France instantly where they are analysed and the results are returned within minutes!

Book now for your Oligoscan at Botanica Medicines. One of our retail naturopaths can perform the test, and we recommend you book in with one of our naturopaths for results interpretation, or take your results to your preferred healthcare practitioner.

Hormone Profiles

Hormonal imbalance may result in conditions such as:

  • weight gain
  • mood swings
  • night sweats
  • disturbed sleep pattern
  • loss of libido
  • hot flushes

And many more

Salivary Hormone testing is unique in that it helps identify the hormonal imbalances which may be causing chronic health problems. Results obtained from the test make it possible for practitioners to individualise treatment in order to establish optimal hormone balance. Testing can also be used to monitor the effects of bioidentical/natural hormone replacement therapy.

Some of our practitioners can refer you for hormone testing suited to your needs.

Hormones Tested

Males:

  • Testosterone (TT)
  • Oestradiol (E2)
  • DHEA-S
  • Cortisol

Females:

  • Oestrone (E1)
  • Oestradiol (E2)
  • Oestriol (E3)
  • Progesterone (P4)
  • Testosterone (TT)
  • DHEA – S

Additionally, select practitioners can also refer you for DUTCH Testing, which refers to Dried Urine Testing of Comprehensive Hormones. This is very useful for formulating your prescription & treatment targets for any hormonal condition or symptoms you experience.

Stress Profile

The Adrenocortex hormone profile is a non-invasive saliva test that serves as a reliable marker of stress response and a critical tool for revealing adrenal imbalances. Lifestyle, physical and psychological stresses put constant demands on the adrenal glands. If they become depleted adrenal fatigue or insufficiency may be experienced.

Salivary cortisol testing is the most accurate and powerful non-invasive salivary hormone test that evaluates bioactive levels of the body’s important stress hormones, cortisol and DHEA. This hormone test (stress test) serves as a critical tool for uncovering biochemical imbalances underlying anxiety, depression, chronic fatigue syndrome, obesity, hypoglycaemia, and a host of other clinical conditions that may affect our day to day lives. This hormone test examines 4 saliva samples over a 12-hour period for levels of cortisol and DHEA.

Common Conditions:

  • anxiety
  • headaches
  • poor concentration, ‘brain fog’
  • energy levels
  • fatigue, lethargy
  • salt cravings
  • mild depression
  • lack of stamina
  • sexual dysfunction
  • irregular sleeping patterns
  • thyroid dysfunction
  • blood Pressure
  • depression
  • impaired Immune System
  • insomnia

Stool Tests (Gut Health)

The Complete Digestive Stool Analysis (CDSA) is a functional test performed by Nutripath labs.

The CDSA is a non-invasive test which provides invaluable information for the patient and practitioner in terms of understanding the role of poor digestive function in disease states.

This test provides an overview of the components of digestion, absorption, intestinal function and microbial flora, as well as identifying any possible pathogenic bacteria, parasites and yeasts.

Many conditions can occur as a result of poor digestive function and imbalanced gut flora such as;

  • constipation
  • diarrhoea
  • flatulence
  • bloating
  • abdominal discomfort
  • halitosis (bad breath)
  • candida
  • abdominal pain

These are all indicative of poor gut function.

MTHFR Gene Test

The MTHFR gene provides instructions for making an enzyme called methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase. This enzyme plays a role in processing amino acids and for processing the B vitamin folate

The MTHFR gene test is a useful and powerful assessment to obtain information from for a variety of health conditions. If you are tested positive for certain mutations such as C677T which is the most common gene that is seen in most people then supplementation may be required for this. Individuals with two copies of this mutation, e.g. one inherited from their mother and one from their father, are called homozygous.

Patients who have homozygous are predisposed to developing high blood levels of homocysteine, particularly when their diets are low in folate. A second mutation in the MTHFR gene, called A1298C, has also been implicated in high blood levels of homocysteine when found in conjunction with the C677T mutation. The MTHFR gene test at Nutripath can be measured by blood, blood spot or a buccal swab

Common Conditions:

  • anxiety
  • insomnia
  • fatigue
  • depression
  • autism

Intestinal Permeability (Leaky Gut)

Changes in intestinal permeability are associated with many health conditions including autism, autoimmune disorders, food sensitivities and inflammatory bowel disease. This ‘leaky gut’ causes disease because the perturbed intestinal barrier allows toxic molecules to enter the bloodstream and poison the body.   In addition to assessing leaky gut, this test can also help diagnose malabsorption and other gut related health problems. Robyn Thompon now uses the Complete Microbiome Mapping test to give a complete picture of your gut health.

Common Conditions:

  • gut dysbiosis
  • irritable Bowel Syndrome
  • inflammatory Bowel Disease – Ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease, Coeliac
  • fatigue
  • food allergy and sensitivities
